What We Look Like...

June 16 - 19, 2022 - BU50 alums and other generations gather in Woodbridge, Virginia, a short distance from Washington, DC, for a long weekend of fun, fellowship, exploration, and commemoration of the second annual observance of America's new JUNETEENTH federal holiday.  The 3-day reunion on the soil where America's "original sin" began brought together classmates who attended the inaugural BU50 weekend reunion, held in northern Virginia in 2010, some of those who attended the second BU50 weekend reunion in Stamford, Connecticut, in 2018, and, once again, attracted first-time attendees eager to reconnect and reminisce about their time at Boston University, who also looked forward to ushering in with a warm embrace the new national holiday celebrating the emancipation of America's once-enslaved people.  The event, held at the Hilton Garden Inn hotel, was highlighted by remarks from Boston University's newly-appointed Vice President for Alumni Engagement, Erika Jordan, Patrice Miller-Robinson, a relative of the Miller family of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, who, in 2020, bought the Sharswood Plantation where their enslaved ancestors once toiled, Ralph H. Groce, III, a BU alumnus, benefactor and owner of the Knowhere Art Gallery at Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard island off the coast of Massachusetts, educator and BU alum Deborah Isom, Ed.D., who works with young people through the Cross Cultural Horizons program in Brooklyn, New York, and Barton Greer, who, in 1997,  hosted a Black BU alumni affinity event in Washington, DC in conjunction with the BU DC Alumni Chapter.

Groce, III, a member of the Deans' Advisory Board at BU, and Duane Jackson, president of the Golden Decade Foundation (representing black BU alums from the 1970s).

June 22, 2018 - While sightseeing in New York City on Friday - one of the activities kicking off the Old School Reunion held in Stamford, Connecticut - a group of BU50 alums were drafted to play various roles in a fantasy "Tonight Show" production at the end of their tour of NBC Studios.  Wisely, after reviewing the video, none of them opted to quit their day jobs.
